Reliance Jio that is headed by businessman Mukesh Ambani unveiled the Jio News App On 11th April 2019. Offering digital news and magazine services, the App consolidates Jio’s previous apps such as JioNewsPaper, JioXpressNews, and JioMags.
The app is downloadable from Apple’s and Google’s App Store and Play Store respectively. At an opportune time when the Lok Sabha elections and IPL season are underway, the app has been launched. In addition to offering digitized solutions of news and magazines, the app offers live TV channels. More so, the Jio News desktop version is available.
In India, as per Assocham, there is maximum consumption of digital news on social media sites; however, there is rising demand for news apps that the Jio News app attempts to cater to.
Lately, Apple re-engineered the Apple News App for offering both News and Service. Indeed, Jio News is perceived as Apple News+ counterpart that is not accessible in the country as yet.
Jio News broadcasts news in 12 languages, with the inclusion of Urdu, Hindi, English, Tamil, Bengali, Punjabi, and Gujarati. Moreover, the app delivers news from more than 800 magazines, 150 live news channels, and 250 newspapers – among other news sites and blogs.
Additionally, through the app’s Newsstand section, users can access newspapers and magazines without downloading the content on their smartphones. Jio News app users can read magazine articles and news archives, as well. In fact, the app uses machine learning and Artificial Intelligence to offer relevant content to the users.
The app users can, also, avail the option of personalizing their homepages through selection of their areas of interest spanning financial news, fashion, lifestyle, health, entertainment, and politics – to list a few.
Reliance Jio stated that the subscribers of JioNewsPaper, JioXpressNews, and JioMags would shift to Jio News. Besides, Jio users are given ‘premium access’. On the other hand, non-Jio users have to log in to Jio News for getting the latest news updates.
